As Expected, Jets Call Up Jarron Gilbert to Active Roster
As I had expected, the Jets have filled their final roster spot with defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Star Ledger.
Gilbert, who I had speculated would probably be called up from the practice squad yesterday, was a third-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2009, but did not make the Bears roster this season and was cut in September.
The Jets quickly snapped him up, and they may have feared another team would snatch him up off the practice squad, so he will be on the 53-man roster against the Packers. No word yet on if he’ll actually be activated.
Gilbert was not exactly a high-profile prospect coming out of San Jose State in 2009, but he became well known among scouting circles for his awesome Youtube video in which he jumps out of a swimming pool.
Jenny Vrentas, who’s been doing a fantastic job all season with the Star Ledger, also reports that the Jets have signed undrafted rookie cornerback Will Billingsley out of North Carolina A&T to the practice squad.
The Jets roster and practice squad are now full again.
