Grading the Philadelphia Eagles This Season, Player by Player: Part 8, Special Teams
[picappgallerysingle id="9749311"]Kicker, David Akers: Akers had one terrible game this season. Against the Atlanta Falcons, he missed three field goals, arguably his worst game as a pro. But he has been automatic in the other six games. For the season, he has kicked 11 of 15 field goals, but is 10 for 11 in his six good games. He is rated as the seventh best kicker in the NFL this season. He is averaging almost 69 yards per kickoff and has 13 touchbacks this season.
Punter, Sav Rocca: Rocca has been phenomenal this season, averaging 46.9 yards per punt. He ranks as the best punter in the NFC and the second best in the NFL. He hasn’t had a below average game yet this season, turning in exceptional performances against Green Bay, Washington, and Tennessee.
Returner, Jorrick Calvin: Calvin has returned seven punts for 93 yards (13.3 average) this season, including a huge 44-yard return. He also has seven kick returns for 160 yards (22.3 average), including a 41-yard return. He has shown lots of potential, but also helped cost the Eagles a game against Tennessee by fumbling away a punt.
Returner, DeSean Jackson: Jackson probably won’t do many more returns, due to his concussion and the surprising development of Jorrick Calvin. He has returned 10 punts for 76 yards, with a long of 22. He has definitely struggled a little but he also hasn’t had many opportunities.
Returner, Ellis Hobbs: Hobbs is the Eagles’ best kick returner this season, with 14 kick returns for 332 yards (23.7 average), including a 46-yarder.
