[picappgallerysingle id="10217098"]The Kansas City Chiefs have lost four of their last six games, and a big reason why has been the declining play of the defense.
Against the Chiefs’ first three opponents, the defense allowed them to convert just 26% of their third down opportunities, and the Chiefs got out to a 3-0 start. In the Chiefs four losses since, they allowed their opponents to convert 45% of their third down chances. It’s not hard to see why the Chiefs have struggled in every game since September, with the exception of their blowout over the Jaguars.
Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel needs to find an answer, and he needs to find it quickly. Players like Derrick Johnson, Brandon Flowers, Tamba Hali, and Eric Berry have made their fair share of big plays in recent weeks. However, players like Brandon Carr, Jovan Belcher, and any safety not named Berry have been exploited by opposing offenses, particularly on drive-sustaining third down plays.
Romeo needs to find an answer, and he needs to find it as soon as this coming Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. If nothing else, he’ll at least have the Chiefs’ 12th man at his disposal as Arrowhead Stadium (where the Chiefs are 4-0) should be rocking again.
