[picappgallerysingle id="10337191"]Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, a mere week after having his appendix removed, is making news as he is back practicing and preparing for Sunday’s game in St. Louis. For Chiefs fans, that’s music to their ears.
This past Sunday in San Diego, backup Brodie Croyle was battered and beaten by a rabid Chargers defense. The offense, lacking Cassel’s leadership, was held to just 67 total yards and Croyle was a paltry 7 of 17 for 40 yards.
This Sunday, the Chiefs would really like to see Cassel return to action against a Rams defense that has been victimized by opposing quarterbacks the last few weeks, giving up three touchdowns to Drew Brees last week, and 300+ yard performances to both Kyle Orton and Troy Smith.
Like the Chiefs, the Rams defense is a young group, one that Cassel and wide receiver Dwayne Bowe could have a lot of success against. The Rams’ youth has also lent itself to the Rams defense leading the league in penalties this season, something that should help the Chiefs with field position on Sunday. Throw in the fact that the entire Rams secondary has been dinged up lately, and you have to like the chances of a Cassel-led Chiefs team heading home with a victory Sunday over their cross-state rivals.
