As the NFL season winds down and the playoff picture comes into view more and more each week, football fans have got to be excited with the possibility of an Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia NFC Championship game. The Eagles have won six of their last seven games and the Atlanta Falcons have won eight straight.
Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles appear unstoppable on offense and the Atlanta Falcons are unbeatable at home, what a match-up. While it might be a bit early to talk about the possible match-up, which team is going to de-rail the eventual game? The winner of the NFC West? They could be defeated by whichever team winds up earning the wildcard berth.
The New York Giants? They have now been swept by the Philadelphia Eagles and could wind up missing the playoffs entirely. The New Orleans Saints? The Saints barely beat the Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals and lost to the Baltimore Ravens on the road yesterday. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers? Their injury problem caught up with them yesterday and they will most likely miss the playoffs.
The Green Bay Packers? The Packers were my preseason pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, but if Aaron Rodgers can’t play this week, they might be done for the season as well.
The Chicago Bears? I’ve said all along this year, that I don’t think the Bears are as good as their record. Yes, they have been playing good defense, and they did beat the Eagles in week 12, but the Bears would have to travel to Philadelphia this time in the playoffs. I don’t think the Bears would be able to upset the Falcons in Atlanta either.
An Eagles-Falcons, battle of the birds championship game would be something very fun to watch. The best matchups in the playoffs seldom occur so this one isn’t set in stone yet, there is still a long way to go before the NFC Championship game, but it’s fun to speculate.
