Two Eagles Named to Sporting News All-Pro Team
The NFL does not have an official All-Pro team.
The Sporting News is the closest to an actual list.
Today two members of the Philadelphia Eagles were named to the All-Pro team.
No, Michael Vick didn’t make it. Neither did DeSean Jackson. Jason Peters wasn’t selected. And Dimitri Patterson failed to make the cut (kidding).
Cornerback Asante Samuel was selected, despite missing five games (four to injuries, one in the season finale). He intercepted seven passes, which ranked second in the NFL.
He also defensed seven passes and recorded 14 tackles.
Kicker David Akers was also selected, after leading the NFL in points scored with 143, the second highest total of his career.
Akers missed two field goals in the Eagles’ disappointing 21-16 wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers, and has taken a lot of criticism for the two misses, one of which would have put the Eagles in position for a walkoff field goal on the final drive (instead of needing a touchdown).
