Philadelphia Eagles Promote Two Assistant Coaches on Defense

By Bryn Swartz

The Philadelphia Eagles fulfilled their final two defensive coaching positions by adding a linebackers coach and a secondary/safeties coach.

Former Eagles linebacker Mike Caldwell, who toiled 11 years in the NFL, will now be coaching the linebackers.

Caldwell joined the Eagles as a defensive quality control coach in 2008. He worked with the defensive line and the linebackers. In 2010, he served as the team’s assistant linebackers coach.

As a player, Caldwell played from 1993 to 2003, including four seasons (1998-2001) with the Eagles. He was voted the Eagles’ Special Teams MVP in 1998.

Mike Zordich was an NFL safety from 1986 to 1998, including the last five seasons with the Eagles. He joined the Eagles’ coaching staff as an intern in 2009 and worked as the defensive quality control coach in 2010.

I’m excited to see how the Eagles’ defense will look in 2010 with all of these new coaches. I’ve also heard rumors that the Eagles want one more defensive coach (a secondaries/cornerbacks coach).
