With all of the questions surrounding Alex Smith, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to make a move for another quarterback this offseason. While he may not be the best fit for the starting job, there’s one quarterback whose name has been thrown around as a possible candidate to land in San Francisco–Josh Johnson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Earlier this week, Carl Steward of MercuryNews.com discussed how Johnson’s name has been thrown around recent trade rumors with the 49ers listed as a possible destination. Johnson was the quarterback for head coach Jim Harbaugh when he was coaching at the University of San Diego. Harbaugh has always praised Steward for his skills as a quarterback–so it wouldn’t be a surprise if a reunion was in place once a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is in place.
