On top of all the pre-draft hoopla, CBS Sportsline ranked their top 100 current players in the NFL. Just as one would expect from a team that has a top-four quarterback in the NFL and won the Super Bowl a season earlier, the New Orleans Saints are well-represented on Pete Prisco’s list. They have three players that made the cut, including two honorable mentions.
The first player listed, who needs no introduction, is All-Pro Quarterback Drew Brees. He is listed at No. 10 overall, but surprisingly is the fourth quarterback, behind Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers. Manning and Brady were tied for first, and Rogers was listed at six. Rogers is the hotter quarterback since he is coming off the Super Bowl win, but the Saints only won the Super Bowl one season earlier, and it would have been appropriate for Brees and Rogers to be tied on the list.
The next Saint listed was Guard Carl Nicks, who was tabbed as the 26th best player in the NFL. Fittingly, the next Saint on the list was the Saints other guard, Jahri Evans, who was listed as No. 68. With that tandem, the Saints arguably have the best set of guards in the NFL protecting Brees and setting up the running game.
Those players who just missed the cut were wide receiver Marques Colston and safety Malcolm Jenkins. Even after barely being drafted in 2006, it’s sad to continually see Colston so underrated, but with his quiet personality, he seems to like going off the radar. As for Jenkins, he really shined in 2010, and Saints fans should expect big things and plays from him in the secondary in the very near future.
