The hopes of Rams fans were crushed tonight as Alabama WR Julio Jones was picked 6th overall by the Atlanta Falcons.
The Rams were in desperate need of a receiver, but both of the elite receiver prospects (A.J. Green, Jones) were well out of there reach. There was hope that Jones would slip just far enough so that the Rams could cough up a few picks and trade up for him.
The Falcons, who were set to pick 26th overall, traded their 1st, 2nd and 4th; as well as their 2012 1st and 4th so that they could move up to the No. 6 spot and grab Jones. So it is safe to say that a rebuilding team like the Rams could not compete with an offer like that.
Some other WR options available in the Round 2-3 range: Greg Litte (North Carolina), Jon Baldwin (Pitt), Torrey Smith (Maryland) and Leonard Hankerson (Miami).
