Despite the recent acquisition of Donovan McNabb from the Washington Redskins, rookie Christian Ponder believes he has what it takes to be the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings this season. Even though he’ll most likely serve as a backup this season and learn from one of the most experienced veteran quarterbacks in the NFL in McNabb, at least Ponder doesn’t have to worry about his contract.
According to Jeremy Fowler of the Pioneer Press, Ponder and the Vikings have agreed to a four-year deal that will pay the former Florida State standout $11 million–all of which is guaranteed. Minnesota selected Ponder in the first round (12th overall) of April’s draft with the hope he will emerge into the type of franchise quarterback they’ve waited years to find.
