Training Camp Casualty: New York Giants Lose CB Bruce Johnson For Season
The New York Giants got some bad news at training camp today—backup CB Bruce Johnson is lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Johnson has been a solid backup for the Giants since being picked up as an unrestricted free agent after the 2009 NFL Draft. He appeared in all 16 games in 2009, racking up 46 tackles, eight pass deflections, and two interceptions. He was expected to be a contributor for a while after his rookie year, but appeared the first six games in 2010 before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
This is an unfortunate setback for a corner who showed a lot of promise his rookie season. I really hoped Johnson would be able to contribute this season, but that’s obviously not going to happen.
Hopefully the Giants can get him back healthy in 2012.
