Eskin to Leave WIP

Howard Eskin known to many Philadelphia Eagles fans for his brash in your face style maybe leaving his post at 610 WIP in Philadelphia.  Dan Gross of Philly.com broke the story earlier today [Philly.com]

We won’t call it a “stone cold mortal lock,” as Howard Eskin might, but it’s pretty certain that the Sportsradio 610 WIP AM host will not be hosting a daily talk show for the station after Labor Day.

Sources say Eskin, who has worked at WIP for about 25 years, will retire from daily broadcasting but remain as a contributor and Eagles sideline reporter.
The station is expected to announce this change among other updates to its line up sometime this week, insiders tell us.

Eskin’s numbers have fallen since ESPN 950 moved to 97.5 The Fanatic in December 2009.  Rumors are that WIP might move to FM and take over the signal of 94.1 WYSP which is a rock station and the current radio home of the Eagles.

UPDATE: On his afternoon show an emotional Eskin announced he would be leaving his daily radio show.  Eskin also posted a statement on his twitter:[blackbirdpie url="http://twitter.com/#!/howardeskin/status/103206898022629377"]
