Cam Newton to Start Friday
According to multiple sources, Panthers coach Ron Rivera told reporters after practice on Wenesday that rookie QB Cam Newton will start on Friday at the Miami Dolphins.
Rivera made the move sound routine, however, and pointed out that it was not necessarily a harbinger of what was to come for the start of the season.
“It’s pretty much following the line of what we had planned throughout training camp, and that’s to go back and forth and back and forth with our guys. It’s a good opportunity,” said Rivera before adding, “We want to make sure everybody gets a chance to play and work with the guys and keep that competition going.”
Given Clausen’s impressive performance last week, look for Newton to try to seperate himself from the pack. Otherwise, Clausen might just find himself in a comfortable position halfway through the preseason– barring a horrible performance.
