The St Louis Rams have released long snapper Chris Massey, a seventh-round selection out of Marshall in 2002. Massey was the longest tenured of all Rams players. Per Jim Thomas of St Louis Today:
Massey was a very dependable long snapper ever since day one, having only one botched snap out of 1,051 attempts. He was known as one of the classiest guys around and a pleasant presence in the locker room. Despite the fact that he wasn’t an impact player by any means, it’s safe to say this will be one of the most difficult guys to see leave.
To fill Massey’s role, the Rams will turn to und-drafted free agent rookie Jake McQuaide out of Ohio State. The two had been having a small position battle throughout camp, and it appears that St Louis is comfortable with turning the job over to the unproven rookie.
