Earlier this week, Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis claimed he and Sean Smith were the best cornerback duo in the NFL–which has sparked a huge debate over the last few days. So what did New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis have to say about the comments? Well–let’s just say all he could was smile.
Revis told Davis to “check the tapes” when told about the comments made by the Dolphins cornerback, according to Brain Costello of the New York Post. It’s safe to say Revis and Antonio Cromartie provide the Jets with arguably the toughest duo at cornerback in the NFL–so for Davis to say what he said about being part of the best cornerback duo is a bold statement considering the difference in experience.
Here’s what Revis had to say about Davis’ comments courtesy of Costello:
“He’s got to play a couple more years before he’s saying all that,” Revis said Friday. “They’re a good tandem but they have a lot of work to do.”
“It really don’t matter because the film don’t lie,” Revis said. “The film don’t lie. You can say what you want to say. You can say the sky is red but it ain’t red. That’s just what it is. We know how we play and we know what we do on that field not just as a corner tandem but as a secondary. We play great football.”
Unfortunately for Davis, it’s difficult not to agree with Revis on this one considering how he’s proven to be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL over the last few years and playing alongside Cromartie causes trouble for just about any offense. On the bright side, at least this “debate” will be settled on October 17 and January 1 when the Dolphins and Jets square off against each other and Davis will most likely realize how ridiculous his comments about being part of the league’s best cornerback duo really were.
