As we wrap up the pre-season in which the Cardinals sit at 1-2 we look ahead to the regular season. I can say personally this has been one hell of a pre-season and I love covering the Cardinals an even though my content has been lacking (which I apologize for) I feel that there is a lot coming from this team.
So for the last time in the pre-season here are this week’s Key 7 pre-game questions.
1. Will the Cardinals recover from a late collapse?
Last week the Cardinals were coasting throughout the game and then when the back-ups came in the lead was blown and the Chargers came back and won. Now while the starters will probably see little game action, this is the time for the young guys to prove their worth.
2. Stephen Williams, DeMarco Sampson, or Isaiah Williams?
One of these three men will breakthrough tonight and make a statement with roster spots on the line. Everyone knows that Week three is in which the starters play most of the game and week four is where bubble players gain/lose a spot on the roster.
3. How will the secondary show up?
Greg Toler now lost for the season and Adrian Wilson still out, the Cardinals may have to use rookie Patrick Peterson and newly signed Richard Marshall more than what they would have liked. Both Marshall and Peterson are first year guys with the Cardinals (Marshall did play in Carolina) but it will be interesting to see how they play without true experience with the Cardinals.
4. Will Alfonso Smith make the cut?
Smith is one hell of a special teams player and previous readers will know that I am pushing for him to get a spot at the running back position. While cuts were being made around the league it was rumored that the Cardinals may look to add a veteran running back if cut. So far, nothing has happened which means Smith still has a chance to make it.
5. Will AJ Jefferson rise?
The question has already been stated if the secondary as a whole will rise up with Toler out for the year but eyes are also on Jefferson. Another young guy for the Cardinals, Jefferson has made an appearance in only two games but now enters his second season with a chance. He has risen on the depth chart due to these injuries and now he must prove he’s worth the spot he was given.
6. Brodie Croyle or Richard Bartel?
As backups are making their argument for their case, the third string quarterback position is on the line. With the Cardinals bringing in Croyle for an audition, Bartel is certainly looking to make his own argument. With all that being said the Broncos’ defense may be in trouble.
7. Final Score prediction?
Easier said than done, it seems like the Cardinals have to finish at .500. While pre-season never truly determines the regular season, I see the Cardinals handling this game easily.
