Saints Kicker Garrett Hartley Could Miss Six, Maybe 10 Weeks After Suffering a Hip Flexor

By Dan Parzych

Good news–the New Orleans Saints are officially less than a week away from kicking off their regular season against the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. Bad news–they will have to play the first few months without their starting kicker.

According to James Varney of The Time Picayune, Garrett Hartley is expected to be out for at least six weeks–with the possibility of as many as 10–after suffering a hip flexor during an extra point against the Oakland Raiders last Sunday. Hartley originally thought the injury was minor and he would be back in no time, but Varney claims the kicker still found it difficult to walk after a few days and the entire right side of his leg was black and blue.

Last season, Hartley converted 20 of 25 kicks for the Saints and was perfect on all 40 extra point attempts. Until Hartley’s return, John Kasey is expected to be the Saints kicker to start the season, but after he struggled during Thursday’s game against the Tennessee Titans–who knows what to expect.
