11 days ago, the Philadelphia Eagles dramatically changed their offensive line by switching Todd Herremans from left guard to right tackle, and moving Evan Mathis to left guard in his place.
The move, well, it wasn’t Andy Reid’s idea. Or Howard Mudd’s. Or Todd Herremans’ or Evan Mathis’.
It was actually suggested by this guy. He tweeted this to Evan Mathis.
Mathis passed along the idea to the coaching staff, and later retweeted a similar suggestion from a reporter. And now? Well, Mathis is the starting left guard and Herremans is the starting right tackle.
In related news about the offensive line, the starting five have not yet played together in the preseason.
The season opener against the St. Louis Rams will be a big test, especially for rookie center Jason Kelce and rookie right guard Danny Watkins. Mathis and Herremans are also at new positions. In fact, only left tackle Jason Peters is starting at the same spot from the 2010 season.
