Breaking news to report here. WNDE 1260 AM out of Indianapolis is reporting that Colts QB Peyton Manning is done for the season. Manning has been confirmed to miss at least one week. Without Manning, the Colts are in serious trouble. This has not been confirmed by any other source, but the word has spread like wildfire.
If Manning is done for the year, I would expect the Colts to go after David Garrard. He may be pure average, but he’s better than old man Kerry Collins and can’t hit the wide open receiver Curtis Painter. If the Colts have any hopes for the playoffs, they need Manning or Garrard. If Manning isn’t possible (and it seems unlikely), Garrard is your next best bet. Collins probably can’t handle the rigors of a season and Painter is too young and too untalented. A homeless man’s Kyle Orton is what I like to call him. I watched every game Painter played for Purdue and was never happy with him. Colts’ fans won’t be either.
We will have more on this as it develops.
Update: Jim Irsay just Tweeted that Manning is out for “awhile.” Looks like we got out ahead of this story. Check it out: Link
Update #2: Chris Moretensen has reported that Peyton Manning had surgery earlier today. 2 to 3 month recovery timetable. Tweet here. We here at Rant Sports were one of the first websites to report on this story.
