The struggle for game time on the Packers depth chart has forced a few key players away from the team so far this season, and another young wide receiver felt the pinch of Titletown’s competition.
According to reports, Kerry Taylor has been signed to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad just a day before Jim Harbaugh’s team head to Detroit to take on the 5-0 Lions. While the Packers receiving corp is still stacked strong, the move comes as a slight surprise considering Taylor’s stand out performance in training camp earlier in the year.
Either this is a case of Ted Thompson not seeing any value in Taylor, or that the Packers needed to clear some room on the roster. Still, in his time with Arizona State prior to being drafted in 2010, Taylor led the team in receptions and yards while catching 54 passes in his final season, but was cut short in Green Bay due to competition.
In San Francisco, it looks like Taylor could make his way onto the depth chart with Braylon Edwards and Ted Ginn battling injuries this season.
