Stats Don't Lie

By Ross Dinsdale

The Cardinals, coming out of their week five bye week, hoped to get a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, in what has been a disastrous season thus far.  The sell out crown inside University of Phoenix Stadium was definitely pro Steelers.  This story was told by the boo’s heard every time quarterback “Big” Ben Roethlisberger ended up on his back.

Although I personally was unable to view this game on television, I was able to listen to the radio broadcast along with keeping my eye on the gamecast provided by ESPN.  The stats tell the story louder than Cardinals play by play analysts Ron Wolfley.  The Cardinals may have shut down the Steelers running game, but in doing so they allowed Ben Roethlisberger to do his thing and successfully throw the ball for 350+ yards.

The offense suffered yet another injury on Sunday with Chris “Beanie” Wells leaving the field early in the first half.  This is significant knowing that the running back position lacks the depth we once had.  Reports are saying that it is a bone bruise that could keep him out up to two weeks.

The Cardinals were trading punch for punch with the Steelers until late in the third quarter.  B. Roethlisberger led a drive down the field ending with a four yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders.  On the Cardinals next drive Kevin Kolb was flagged in the end zone for intentional grounding, which consequently resulted in a saftey. This call made it a twelve point game and let whatever was left in the sails for the Cardinals.

The game ended with the Cardinals losing to the Steelers 32 – 20.  It was their fifth straight loss of the season.  The road doesn’t get much easier for the Cardinals after this. Traveling to Baltimore to take on Ray Lewis and the Ravens.
