Following the 24-14 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, Jaguars special teams captain Kassim Osgood wrote a series of posts on his twitter account that suggested his unhappiness with his lack of involvement in the Jaguars offense.
“If they only need me for that, then TEAM first,” Osgood wrote on his twitter. “I respect the game and won’t complain. Just gonna work my ass off for my teammates.”
Osgood has made his name in the NFL on special teams where he has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times, but he is also a wide receiver and initially signed with the Jaguars before the 2010 season because he thought he would have a better chance to make an impact at receiver than he did with his old team the San Diego Chargers.
He has seen limited time on the field with the Jaguars offense so far in 2011, mostly due to a hamstring injury that kept him out for four games.
At this point it seems that with as poor as the Jaguars wide receiver corps has performed so far this season, it would not hurt to give Osgood a shot to show what he can do for the offense. At 6’5″, his size could make him a valuable red zone target for rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
