Jaguars Offense vs. Colts Defense
If there was ever a week for the Jaguars offense to break out under rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, it would be this Sunday against the Colts defense. The Colts defense is ranked next to last in the league in total yards allowed per game and rushing yards allowed. The Colts inability to stop the run has been exploited by the Jaguars numerous times in the past.
Colts GM Bill Polian constructed their defense with the idea that Peyton Manning would get them big leads early, but without Manning the defense has been playing from behind all season. Dwight Freeny and Robert Mathis may be the best pass rushing end combination in the NFL, but they are terrible against the run.
I expect the Jaguars offense to take advantage of the Colts poor run defense and for Maurice Jones-Drew to have a big day on the ground. However, I also expect the Jaguars coaching staff to give Gabbert a shot to throw the ball around a bit.
In the end, despite the Jaguars massive struggles on offense this season, it would disappointing if they did not put up a couple touchdowns on Sunday.
Jaguars Defense vs. Colts Offense
The Jaguars defense will be the best unit in the game on Sunday by a wide margin. The Colts offense has been as bad as the Jaguars offense this season under Curtis Painter. The best news for the Jaguars heading into this game is that the Colts will be without tight end Dallas Clark on Sunday. Clark has given the Jaguars defense fits ever since he came into the league.
The Colts have not been able to accomplish much on the ground this year either. The Jaguars should have no trouble shutting down the Colts offense.
The Colts and the Jaguars have both been terrible on offense this season, but the Jaguars have the far superior defense in this match up. There has been a ton of national people picking the Colts to win this game claiming that it is their best chance for a win this season, but those people are struggling to grasp just how bad this team is without Peyton Manning. The Jaguars start their second half of the season the same way they started the first half, with a win over a division rival.
