Game Preview: Miami Dolphins @ Dallas Cowboys

The Miami Dolphins traveled to Dallas earlier today, in advance of their Thanksgiving Day game tomorrow against the Cowboys at 4:15 pm.  The Dolphins enter the game at 3-7, but are currently riding a 3 game winning streak.  The Cowboys are 6-4 and are also winner’s of 3 straight.  A few weeks ago, this game looked like it would be the typical Thanksgiving Day snoozefest.  However, the Dolphins have looked very good of late and should give the Cowboys all they can handle.

The Dolphins defense, along with backup QB, Matt Moore, have been the primary reasons for their recent turnaround.  After starting 0-7, the Dolphins have won their last 3 games by an average of 22 games.  The Dolphins defense has been dominant over wins against the Chiefs, Redskins, and Bills, as they have not allowed a touchdown for 12 quarters.  I expect that streak to come to an end on Thanksgiving, as the Cowboys have a potent offense.  The Cowboys offense will be without Miles Austin, but they have more than enough fire-power to put up points.  The key for the Dolphins will be to contain Demarco Murray and the Cowboys ground attack.  This will force the Cowboys to throw the ball, which could lead to costly mistakes by Tony Romo.  If the Dolphins defense continues to play as well as they have for the last 3 weeks, I’d expect them to limit the Cowboys to about 20 points or so.

On offense, Matt Moore will lead the Dolphins offense, which has played well of late.  Moore received his second nomination this year for Offensive Player of the Week.  He won the award 2 weeks ago after a great performance against the Chiefs.  The key for the Dolphins on offense will be controlling the clock by utilizing Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush.  If the Dolphins can pick up positive yards on 1st and 2nd down, it will limit the chances for DeMarcus Ware to tee-off on Marc Colombo.

This game marks the return of Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland to Dallas, having both worked there before coming to Miami.  This game means a lot to the coach and GM, who are both still fighting for their jobs.  The players are also motivated for this game, as they hope to show the world that their 0-7 start is a thing of the past.  The Dolphins want the world to see that they are a team that will cause havoc for their opponents for the rest of the season.

Prediction:  I think the Dolphins keep this game close and pull out the upset late.  The defense should be able to contain Murray enough, and will force Romo into a couple of mistakes.  Dolphins 23 – Cowboys 20

I hope you all have a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
