The Philadelphia Eagles season almost took an even more dramatic turn when cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was carted off the field at practice with an apparent left knee injury.
The injury has not yet been diagnosed and will require further evaluation. The injury occurred in a non-contact drill, and resulted in him being listed as a partial participant at practice.
If Nnamdi can’t play for the Eagles on Sunday against the New England Patriots, they are in big trouble.
Asante Samuel is healthy and is one of the two starters. But Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has a high ankle sprain and will likely miss several more games. Hanson has filled in for Rodgers-Cromartie as the nickel corner, but said if Asomugha couldn’t go Sunday he would move outside in the base defense and play in the slot on nickel downs. Brandon Hughes would then take Hanson’s spot on the outside. The Eagles also have rookie third-round draft pick Curtis Marsh.
The Eagles need all of their playmakers when they face the 7-3 New England Patriots and two-time MVP quarterback Tom Brady.
