Jaguars Lose Another Defensive Starter For Season

By Joey Farbo

The injury bug has bitten the Jaguars defense hard.

The Jaguars announced on Friday that they were placing starting defensive back Derek Cox on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Cox is the second defensive starter placed on the injured reserve list this week after the Jaguars placed linebacker Clint Session on it on Tuesday. The Jaguars also lost Rashean Mathis for the season last week.

The Jaguars will now rely on second string cornerbacks Ashton Youboty and William Middleton to fill in for the injured Cox and Mathis.

The Jaguars defense also got some more bad news on Friday as the team announced that defensive tackle Terrance Knighton and defensive end Matt Roth would miss this Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. The Texans possess one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL and Knighton has been one of the Jaguars best run stuffers this season.

Without Cox, Mathis, Session, Roth and Knighton, the Jaguars will be without almost half of their normal starting defense on Sunday.

Cox is the 17th Jaguars player to end up on the injured reserve list this season.

To replace him on the roster, the Jaguars signed quarterback Dan LeFevour off of the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.
