Jaguars Release Jason Hill

Now that the Jaguars playoff aspirations have been all but eliminated for this season, general manager Gene Smith has said that he will use these final five games to give some of the younger guys on the roster a shot to show their talents.

Some of the younger wide receivers will get a shot now that the Jaguars have decided to release Jason Hill.

Hill had 25 catches for 367 yards and three touchdowns for the Jaguars this season, but never emerged as the go to receiver that the Jaguars hoped he would become when the chose to sign him to a new contract this offseason over Mike Sims-Walker.

Hill’s release will likely lead to more playing time for some of the younger receivers on the Jaguars rosters like Jarett Dillard, Chastin West and Cecil Shorts.

The Jaguars also placed safety Courtney Greene on the injured reserve list with a knee injury. Greene becomes the Jaguars 18th player to be placed on the injured reserve list this season.

To replace Hill and Greene on the 53-man roster, the Jaguars signed running back DuJuan Harris off of their practice squad and signed defensive back Morgan Trent.

The promotion of Harris from the practice squad to the active roster likely means the Jaguars have grown tired of the lack of production by Deji Karim when he comes in to spell Maurice Jones-Drew.

Harris logged 16 carries for 76 yards in the preseason for the Jaguars.
