The Dallas Cowboys officially signed a running back on Tuesday. Former New England Patriot Sammy Morris signed with America’s Team following DeMarco Murray’s season-ending broken ankle he suffered in a 37-34 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night.
Murray was placed on Injured Reserve, so Dallas didn’t have to cut a player to sign Morris. At 34, Morris is past his prime, but is still in shape; he worked out with the Kansas City Chiefs after being cut by the Patriots this preseason.
Morris is a Texas Tech product and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likes local guys. A savvy veteran, Morris is also very intelligent, which will help him learn the Cowboys’ playbook in time for a Saturday night road trip to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
