Five positions that the Chargers can improve on or get younger at for the future or right away

Backup quarterback: Billy Volek’s only season in which he got significant playing time resulted in him passing for 249 yards per game.  This was ninth in the NFL among QB’s, but it happened in 2004 and he is 35 years old.

Linebacker: Takeo Spikes is third on the team with 58 tackles and leads San Diego in assisted tackles, but he is 35 years old and in his 14th NFL season.  The Chargers may not want or need to replace him, but drafting someone for the future or present should be considered.

Kick Returner: San Diego is in need of an upgrade as they rank 15th in kick return average and 22nd in punt return average.

Wide Receiver: Vincent Jackson has 1077 reception yards and eight touchdowns, but he could use some help as Vincent Brown and Malcom Floyd have combined for 1058 reception yards and six touchdowns.

Cornerback: Quentin Jammer is 32 years old, which means his career could be coming to an end, and Antoine Cason has been getting beat in coverage for most of the season.
