Ravens Director of player Personnel Eric DeCosta has long been rumored to be the heir apparent to General Manager Ozzie Newsome. While other front office types like Phil Savage, Shack Harris and George Kokinos have left Baltimore for the opportunity to run the show elsewhere DeCosta has remained. With the firings of multiple NFL General Managers this week the name of DeCosta is passing through the rumor mill once again. According to The Baltimore Sun three teams have requested permission from the Ravens to interview DeCosta for their open post. Speculation in Baltimore is that Newsome may retire, or move into a consultant role with the team, should the Ravens complete their goal of winning the Super Bowl. In that scenario DeCosta would assume the office of General Manager in Baltimore. DeCosta’s wife is from the Baltimore area and it is believed that the family would prefer to stay in the area.
