The Cardinals season has been over for less than a week, and yet the proverbial Red Sea continues to make waves through the media. Yesterday it was reported that Ken Whisenhunt will talk with Todd Haley about the possibility about rejoining the coaching staff. Today it was reported that first year Defensive Coordinator Ray Horton will be interviewed by the St. Louis Rams for their head coaching position.
The Rams have already talked to Jeff Fisher, who is also being courted by the Dolphins and will make his decision next week, may just be interviewing Horton to appease the Rooney Rule. A rule that ensures minority coaches are given fair shots at high level coaching positions. The Cardinals defense blossomed under Horton this year. It’s only a matter of time before he gets his chance at becoming a head coach somewhere in the league.
Head coach isn’t the only vacancy in St. Louis as the General Manager position is also available. Among possible candidates Steve Keim, Cardinals Director of Player Personnel, has been shown some interest from the Rams. I am sure if Jeff Fisher is their man he will want some say at who his G.M. will be. Only time will tell the direction they go, but with the draft just a little more than two months away I have feeling their decision will come quickly.
