Rumor: Green Bay Packers To Franchise Tag Matt Flynn
With the Green Bay Packers first playoff game of 2012 merely hours away, Twitter’s famous rumor source Incarcerated Bob has discovered one about the team. Bob is reporting that the Packers will franchise soon to be free agent Matt Flynn in hopes of trading him. The tag would give Flynn a one year contract in Green Bay, but Ted Thompson and company would look to move Flynn for probably a second round pick, if not more.
The certainty with which Bob says this might be a bit premature, but I’ve kicked this idea around. It makes more sense for the Packers to try to work out a long term deal with free agent tight end Jermichael Finley and tag Flynn instead of letting Flynn walk. GB is excellent at maximizing value out of all of its picks and players so trading Flynn would be a shrewd move.
This is far from a certainty, but it does make plenty of sense. We will keep you updated on the situation as it develops over the coming weeks.
