When one college coach turns you down, I guess you try for another.  Adam Schefter is reporting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will hire Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano to the same position.  Schiano has been responsible for making Rutgers a legitimate football program over the last few years.

I’m not big on hiring college coaches in the NFL.  It seems to fail more often than it succeeds.  The track record of Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, Bobby Petrino and Pete Carroll should serve as a warning.  Then again, Tampa has missed out on almost all of its other choices, so there aren’t a lot of options left.

We will keep you updated on this story.  Schiano just might pull a Chip Kelly and back out at the last second.

Update:  Peter King states that Schiano will indeed be the next coach in Tampa
