QB Shake-Up in Denver?

By David LaRose

Local Denver media outlet 9News is reporting that the Broncos are strongly considering making a move to land injured star quarterback Peyton Manning.

The Broncos would get Manning to either groom the messiah Tim Tebow or to be a hold-over until the Broncos find their quarterback of the future. It is also being reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Jacksonville Jaguars would be willing to offer the Broncos a 2nd and 5th round draft pick in exchange for Tebow.

If you are the Broncos why would you not do both of these deals? Tebow revived the Broncos season and led them to their first playoff victory since 2005, but Broncos Executive VP of football operations John Elway only guaranteed Tim a starting job going into training camp. It would make sense for the Broncos to get the most for Tebow that they can while Tebowmania is still clouding everyone’s judgement.

It’s hard not to root for the guy and I enjoyed watching him lead the Broncos this season, but sending him to Jacksonville for two good draft picks in return seems like a good deal all around. First, he would be loved even more in Jacksonville being so close to his old stomping grounds at the University of Florida. Second, it would revive their fan base and jump start a team that nobody wanted to watch this season. And third the Broncos would be able to have a young QB come in and learn from one of the greatest QB’s to ever play the game.

Now this all depends on the health of Manning as he recovers from his third neck surgery. If he is cleared to play (which Colts owner Jim Irsay says he hasn’t done) and is able to perform well enough in front of Broncos brass then look for Denver to make a serious move to land the future hall of famer.

Basically, if the Broncos are confident in Manning they will move Tebow.

It might be time to change Tebow time from MST to EST.
