Matt Ryan has seen plenty of success since the Atlanta Falcons selected the former Boston College standout with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft–including three playoff appearances in his first four seasons. While the Falcons have their quarterback under contract for at least two more seasons, it appears the organization may want to make sure Ryan is around for the long run sooner rather than later.
According to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com, the Falcons plan to discuss a possible extension for Ryan over the next couple of weeks. Ryan signed a lucrative six-year deal for $72 million as a rookie and is coming off the best season of his four-year career after throwing for 4,177 yards to go along with 29 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions.
With a young offense that has the potential to be one of the best in the NFL for years to come, this seems like the smart move for Atlanta to work out a deal with Ryan as quickly as possible to avoid the risk of losing him down the road.
