Tennessee Titans 2012 NFL Combine Update

By Stephanie Umek

The Titans are defiantly thinking defense this year in the first round of the NFL draft. They are lucky to have some good defensive tackles still on the roster from the draft last year. But if free agency approaches, many defensive ends will no longer be Titans.

William Hayes, Jason Jones and Dave Ball will all become free agents if they do not receive future contracts by the March 5th deadline. This will prompt the Titans to drastically consider drafting an end in the first round. Rumors have flown that the Titans would still be interested in Jones if they could come to an agreement between him and his agent/representatives.

They would love to find another player to help Derrick Morgan out on the defensive end, considering that even Head Coach Mike Munchak stated last week even before the combine started, that Morgan was the only member really pulling his weight.

Munchak told Titansonline.com, “It’s definitely a need, Derrick Morgan is really the only guy playing a lot who is under contract, so that’s definitely an area we’re going to have to look at from both ends — in free agency and the draft. And when the smoke clears, we’ll have some good defensive ends. It’s a matter of where they’re going to come from.”

The good thing here is that the 2012 draft is full of extremely talented defensive players. I firmly believe using their first round pick to get either a defensive tackle OR defensive end would be the way to go. Secures the defense and hopes to great a nice veteran line.
