The Detroit Lions, even if they hit the lottery with their 2012 draft picks, still need to sign players to help improve their team. Knowing they need to improve their passing secondary, the Lions will hopefully use their draft picks to accomplish that. Bringing in a veteran safety such as Yeremiah Bell will be smart. Bell has had four consecutive seasons of 100 plus tackles. Bell was an all-pro for the Miami Dolphins just two years ago.
Yeremiah Bell is very durable and only missed one game during that span. He just turned 34 years old. The Lions should sign Bell. He played very well for a Miami Dolphins franchise that has not been good for awhile now. Plus with a new coaching staff coming in, Yeremiah Bell could use a fresh start with a new team.
Yeremiah Bell wants to play on team that is ready to contend now. The Lions would be a great fit for him because they need to upgrade their pass coverage that was destroyed by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2011 playoffs. Yeremiah Bell, a veteran and Miami team captain, will be a great mentor to younger players.
More importantly, the Detroit Lions have salary cap issues. They need to spend their money wisely, keep their core talent, and, at the same time, bring in players to make the team better. Signing Yeremiah Bell will not cost a lot due to his age. Bell could rejuvenate his career and show everyone he can still play at an all-pro level. He can improve a very talented Lions defense and make Super Bowl dreams a reality in 2012.
