Jacksonville Jaguars Re-Sign Guy Whimper

The Jacksonville Jaguars have locked up another of their own free agents prior to the start of free agency on Tuesday.

According to Tania Ganguli of The Florida Times-Union, the Jaguars re-signed offensive lineman Guy Whimper to a two-year, incentive laden contract that could be worth as much as $5 million.

Since most of the contract is reportedly tied up in incentives, there is no guarantee Whimper will be on the roster next season. He will likely be given a chance in training camp to earn a spot as the backup tackle, but the Jaguars will almost certainly look to take another offensive tackle at some point in the NFL Draft.

Whimper started most of the games last season at right tackle where he was an adequate run blocker, but was a massive liability in pass protection. The Jaguars are hoping to have Eben Britton back at right tackle this season after missing almost all of last season with a nagging back injury.

The Jaguars two other main free agents, safety Dwight Lowery and defensive end Jeremy Mincey, are going to likely test the free agent market next week. Losing either or both would be a tremendous blow for a Jaguars defense that was significantly improved last season.
