Mario Williams Should Not Be Target For Houston Texans
Owner Bob McNair recently explained his desire to keep Mario Williams with the Houston Texans. He also explained why the Houston Texans were not interested in Peyton Manning. He feels Matt Schaub is the man to take them to the Super Bowl. Well if that’s the case then he is going to need a strong offensive line to do it with. With Eric Winston already let go, the Texans can ill afford to let Chris Meyers and Mike Brisiel go. If they are unable to sign these guys, that will mean starting the new season missing the entire right side of their offensive line.
“We want Mario,” McNair said. “We’d like to have him. Unfortunately, other people would like to have him, too, and it depends on how much they’re willing to pay. We have limitations that constrain us, and we’re going to do everything we possibly can to keep him here. We’ve got Chris Myers. We want to keep him. We’ve got [Mike] Brisiel, we’ve got [Joel] Dreessen, we’ve got a lot of guys that we would like to keep, and so we’re trying to keep that core group together as best we can, and that’s our focus.”http://blog.houstontexans.com/2012/03/13/we-want-mario-bob-mcnair-says-texans-focused-on-keeping-core-group-intact/
So, Mr. McNair, let the Buffalo Bills have Mario Williams. The defense did a pretty bang up job in his absence this last season. http://www.nfl.com/teams/statistics?team=HOU. Sure more sacks as a team would be nice, but I will take a rush defense at 150 yards a game. You want to make the defense better? Keep the offensive line in tact. Make a hard push to sign Meyers and Brisiel. Let other teams pay high dollar for Williams. He served Houston well while in town, but maybe he is no longer as valuable to the overall team as he once was.
