Houston Texans 1st Free Agency Win-Chris Myers

By Eric Droddy

The Houston Texans gain their first and most critical win in the free agency game on Friday.  Pro Bowl Center Chris Myers inked a four year deal reportedly worth 25 million dollars with 14 million guaranteed.  Myers confirmed the deal to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7699102/houston-texans-re-sign-center-chris-myers-four-year-deal.

In  a video interview with Texans TV, Myers talks about the uncertainty of free agency dealings and his relief to be staying in Houston and have the deal done.  He briefly addressed the loss of Eric Winston and right guard Mike Brisiel but stated there were capable replacements already in place to step up.  http://www.houstontexans.com/tv-media/videos/1-on-1-with-Chris-Myers/9a3ff419-5799-4459-ba90-a4ca96a079d1.  Myers also left a message to Texans fans through his twitter account.

“Let me first say thank you to all of the dedicated Texans fans out there,” he wrote. “I am extremely happy to stay here in Houston and be a Texan! Can’t wait to get back down to work and build on last season’s success!”

Since free agency began, I have been calling for the Houston Texans to make a push to re-sign both Myers and Brisiel and move on with out Mario Williams.  Well we have Myers now but unfortunately Brisiel signed a  new contract with the Oakland Raiders.  But  the ability to sign Chris Myers is a big deal to an offense that was tops in the league as the Houston Texans made their first playoff appearance in team history.  With the left side of the line in tact and a veteran at center, RB Arian Foster and QB Matt Schaub should rest a little easier.  Veteran tackle Rashad Butler and guard Antoine Caldwell have both seen playing time and will now have the opportunity solidify the right side of the line.
