Detroit Lions Should Sign LaRon Landry

By Greg Bolotin

Now that the Detroit Lions took care of re-signing Calvin Johnson and restructuring other stars’ contracts to get under the NFL salary cap, they can refocus on signing players to improve the Lions going into the 2012 season. LaRon Landry would be a great addition to the Detroit Lions secondary.

Improving the Detroit Lions secondary either through the draft or free agency is necessary. Their pass coverage was a thorn in the Detroit Lions side throughout the 2011 season. They were destroyed by Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2011 playoffs. If the Lions want to move forward in their quest to bring a super bowl championship to the city of Detroit they must make improvements in their pass coverage.

Signing a player such as LaRon Landry does come with risk. He has had to deal with injuries in the past, but a healthy LaRon Landry will provide a spark and more important, will provide quality pass coverage the Detroit Lions did not have in 2011.

LaRon Landry is getting interest from other NFL teams. If the Detroit Lions do want to sign him. They will need to act quickly on it. The Detroit Lions have to show LaRon Landry that he would be joining a very young and talented team, that has their star players signed for years to come making the Detroit Lions formidable Super Bowl contenders. LaRon Landry played for the Washington Redskins, who are going no where fast. This would be a great opportunity for LaRon Landry to sign with a very good team, that is only a few moves away from being one of the NFL’s Elite teams.
