Kendall Langford Signs Four-Year Deal With St. Louis Rams

The Rams made a move over the weekend to help revamp one of the league’s worst run defenses a season ago. Kendall Langford signed a four-year, $24 million deal with $12 million guaranteed and will bring a feisty, competitive attitude to a team in need of some real fury along the defensive line.

Langford spent his first four seasons in the league with the Miami Dolphins where he lined up in a 3-4 set as a defensive end, but he will likely be kicked inside to tackle in the Rams 4-3 setup. At 6’6” 296 pounds, Langford will bring an obvious physical presence to a defense in need of a difference maker up the middle. During his tenure in Miami, the Dolphins’ defense finished 10th in rushing defense for 2009, 7th in 2010, and 3rd last year in 2011. The Rams are hopeful Langford can bring some of that success with him to St. Louis and turn around their fortunes sooner rather than later.

Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher offered his thoughts on Langford to stltoday.com saying: “Kendall is a big, physical player who will be a great addition to our defensive line. He’s tough and he always plays hard.” Those characteristics will certainly suit the Rams well in their quest to bring this franchise back from the doldrums in the near-term.

After signing Cortland Finnegan to a lucrative deal and now adding Langford into the mix, the Rams have certainly added some firepower on defense. The downside to that is they don’t have a great deal of salary cap space remaining so some smaller deals are definitely possible, but don’t expect anymore big-name signings in the near future.

Now it’s up to General Manager Les Snead to prove his medal as a talent evaluator in the NFL Draft and with the ammunition the Rams have in terms of draft choices over the next three years, there’s no doubt they could make some waves in April’s selection festivities.
