The Miami Dolphins general manager, Jeff Ireland, is the subject of a lot of criticism lately. The Dolphins have missed out on every single candidate they have pursued - most notably Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn – and the fans aren’t very happy about it, picketing outside Ireland’s office.
However, Ireland told Armando Salguero – a Miami Herald reporter – that he had no idea these protests were even happening. He also spoke about the rumors that players are avoiding the Dolphins because of him:
“I absolutely think players and coaches want to be here. When we talk to people about the Dolphins, they still think highly of this franchise, its history, its direction. They have no problem coming here. And sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they make other decisions. But it’s a two-way street. We make our decisions also.”
To further reiterate the point of players avoiding the Dolphins because of Ireland, Matt Flynn dropped this quote today on why he chose the Seahawks over the Dolphins.
“I felt it’s a program that’s really on the rise, doing the right thing, is being led by the right type of people.”
You can take that for what you will, but I chalk that up as a minor shot to the Dolphins and Ireland.
The question every Florida based football team has to answer right now is the interest they have in Tim Tebow. Ireland didn’t answer the question directly, but Salguero reports that “several highly placed team sources” will not pursue Tebow. Their reasoning for not pursuing the Florida grad is because they don’t want to “revamp” their offense, considering the Dolphins will be running a west-coast offense next season.
So you can go ahead and cross the Miami Dolphins off the list of potential Tebow suitors. It has been reported that several teams have interest in Tebow. Teams like the Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and New England Patriots n some interest, while the most logical destination, the Jacksonville Jaguars, are not interested.
Obviously, we will be on top of any rumbling or grumblings we hear about Tim Tebow.
