As you all know, Johnny Knox suffer that nasty injury last year and his recovery process took a turn for the worse. According to the Chicago Tribune, Johnny Knox will open the 2012 season on the PUP list (physically-unable-to-perform-list). People close to Knox said he suffered more structural damage than first anticipated and there’s a chance Knox won’t play for the whole 2012 season. Knox said on Twitter a few weeks back that he’ll be in a back brace until mid-March at the earliest.
When Knox had the back surgery … his recovery date was anywhere from 4-6 months. However, if something does not go to plan, the recovery date could be longer and it sounds like that could be Knox’s case.
If Johnny Knox does in fact get placed on the PUP list, he would have to sit out the first 6 weeks of the season no matter what.
The Bears are fine at wide receivers … they have the newly acquired Brandon Marshall, Earl Bennett, Devin Hester, and recently signed Eric Weems. Hester could take all of the kickoffs (punts and kicks) or new comer Eric Weems could help Hester with the load. Weems is a great returner too and will help.
The Bears could also sign another WR in free agency (I don’t see that as of now) or draft a WR (that’s very likely – my favorite I would love the Bears to sign is Malcolm Floyd out of Notre Dame).
I truly feel sorry for Knox and I hope for a speedy recovery!
