If you’re like me, your immediate reaction was probably, who is Bryan Walters? I literally knew nothing about this guy until 10 minutes ago. Here’s what I found out:
- Born on November 4th, 1987
- 6 feet tall, weighs 190 pounds
- 621 Followers on Twitter
- Played College Football at Cornell
- Made $375,000 dollars last season
Walters was an undrafted free agent signing of the Chargers. He was originally cut by them on August 5, 2010, but was re-signed to the practice squad due to an injury on the team. Walters also spent time on the practice squad last season.
This signing keeps right in line with what General Manager Rick Spielman has been doing all off-season, picking up inexpensive players to create depth and competition. Who knows what a team can get out of a guy like Walters. You’d have to figure the Vikings saw something they liked about him.
I searched YouTube, and found some film from a pre-season game against the Arizona Cardinals, where Walters made 2 catches down the stretch. The first catch was a tipped ball, where he shows great concentration and makes a really nice grab down the middle of the field. The second was actually the game winning catch, where he runs a crossing route to the right pylon. From the film, you can tell Walters is quick off the line, and he really seems like a natural out there.
He was lined in the slot in both of the clips I watched, and that seems to be a good fit with his quickness. I could definitely see him getting into a few games in the slot in Minnesota next season.
