On Wednesday, the NFL released the 2012 preseason schedule for all 32 teams. As for the New York Jets, they will have plenty of practice against four playoff-caliber teams before the regular season starts–including a key matchup against the defending Super Bowl champions.
Here’s a look at the 2012 preseason schedule for the Jets:
Week 1: Cincinnati Bengals
Week 2: New York Giants
Week 3: Carolina Panthers
Week 4: Philadelphia Eagles
Obviously, the matchup against the Giants will be the most interesting, but the Jets will be heavily tested throughout the preseason considering the Bengals, Panthers, and Eagles are all expected to be playoff contenders in 2012. Cincinnati and Philadelphia are loaded with talent on the defensive side of the ball and Carolina has one of the most talented up-and-coming quarterbacks in the NFL with Cam Newton–so the preseason should be fun to watch.
Last season was the first time in Rex Ryan’s three years as head coach that New York fell short of the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be considered strong contenders in the AFC next season. The Jets will return in 2012 with one of the best defenses in the NFL, but there will be plenty of pressure on Mark Sanchez to perform better now that Tim Tebow is on board.
Either way, it should be interesting to see whether or not the Jets have what it takes to overtake the New England Patriots or Buffalo Bills (sorry Miami Dolphins) in the AFC East next season. It’s only a matter of time before Ryan begins making his bold predictions about his team going to the Super Bowl.
