Cam Newton vs. Tim Tebow
The starting quarterbacks for the game will be Cam newton and Mark Sanchez, but no doubt the storyline will be Cam Newton vs. Tim Tebow.
Newton and Tebow both had surprising seasons last year both in their own right. Both quarterbacks possess Heisman trophies and national championships. They also both once played for the University of Florida, although Newton had some disciplinary issues and eventually went on to Auburn.
Newton shocked the media world who said he couldn’t throw by lighting it up in his first game, and he kept the Panthers competitive in nearly every game (despite a putrid defense), amassing more passing yards than any rookie quarterback ever and more rushing touchdowns than any quarterback in NFL history. Newton hopes to continue his dominant ways this season and have another Pro Bowl year, hopefully leading the Panthers to the Playoffs.
Tebow took the Broncos from the cellar of their division all the way to the Playoffs and a shocking overtime victory versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. He won several games with his last ditch effort and energy despite having an awkward throwing motion, and the Broncos coaching staff basically having to install a college-option-style offense midway through the season. Tebow was then shown the door as John Elway put on that championship charm to win over Peyton Manning, and then shipped Tebow to the Jets.
The game will be nationally televised by NBC, and will showcase two of the most polarizing quarterbacks of the last few seasons.
