New York Giants Select Coby Fleener in Rant Sports 2012 Mock Draft

The New York Giants have selected Stanford tight end Coby Fleener in the first round of the Rant Sports 2012 NFL Mock Draft. Given Fleener’s fantastic pro day, I could not pass up the opportunity to take him when seeing the first 31 picks.

If you have seen my latest mock draft, you will no doubt be confused as I have the Giants selecting Bobby Massie from Ole Miss.

This is simply due to the fact that I believe Fleener’s Pro Day will have scouts around the league drooling over him. The Giants were in attendance, but I’m not sure he falls all the way to No. 32.

That is not to say my fellow writers who picked ahead of me are wrong; it is just my estimation.

If I’m being honest, the Fleener pick is more of a hopeful one than what I actually think Jerry Reese will do. The Giants would be stacked at the tight end position if they added Fleener to go along with recently signed Martellus Bennett.

That said, given Reese’s history, the practical choice would be to address a need such as tackle, running back, defensive tackle or even linebacker if Jonathan Goff signs elsewhere.

However, I’m not sure that the Giants could pass up the opportunity to take Fleener if the draft plays out like we’ve shown you in our collaborative draft.

They got first hand experience, twice, of how the New England Patriots can be effective with two dominant tight ends. There is no harm in giving Eli Manning more weapons to throw to.

Eli Manning Has Interesting Reaction To Broncos' Super Bowl Win

Eli Manning was captured on video making an interesting face when the Denver Broncos cemented their Super Bowl 50 win. The Internet firmly believes Eli is upset that Peyton now has two rings just like he does, but this is simply an overreaction. Eli was clearly nervous throughout the game, and his odd facial expressions are more indicative of a sign of relief than anything else.
