Washington Redskins Select Robert Griffin III in Rant Sports 2012 NFL Mock Draft
The year 2012 may be considered the end of the world for some people, but it’s a new beginning for the Washington Redskins, who take Heisman Trophy Winner Robert Griffin III (stats) in the Rant Sports 2012 NFL Mock Draft.
In their quests to rebound from their disappointing 5-11 2011 NFL Season, the Washington Redskins have bet the farm on reinventing itself, beginning with the acquisition of the 2012 NFL Draft 2nd Round draft pick.
Explained by ESPN a few weeks ago, “In the deal, the Rams will receive the Redskins’ No. 6 overall pick this year, as well as the Redskins’ first-round picks in 2013 and 2014. The Rams also will receive Washington’s second-round pick this year in return for the second overall pick that the Redskins now will use on whichever quarterback the Indianapolis Colts do not draft No. 1 overall.”
The goal: grab position to draft Griffin. The anticipation of RG3′s acquisition has already drawn players like Pierre Garcon from the Colts to sign with the Redskins.
And even though Colts’ owner Jim Irsay has mentioned that everything is still “up in the air”, it’s already been assumed by the media and fans the Redskins will get RG3.
According to former NFL Quarterbacks Coach Terry Shea, RG3 has the makings of a good leader on and off the field. In his interview with the Washington Examiner he said, “No. 1 is the way he brings such an upbeat demeanor to every time he steps on the practice field. It’s infectious,” Shea said. “And No. 2 is the fact that he’s such an explosive athlete he can do just about anything you ask him to do, whether it’s setting that back foot to throw or [throwing] on the run.”
This what the Redskins need, so ignore Donovan McNabb. The Redskins picked the right time to make the draft deal and have placed themselves in great position to be successful. The only thing left to do is perform.
